2014 AAA Crossing Guard of the Year

Through rain, shine and heat, crossing guards get children to and from school safely every day. To honor outstanding guards in Maricopa and Pima counties, AAA Arizona is calling for nominations for its sixth annual Crossing Guard of the Year Award. The deadline to submit nominations is March 10, 2014.

“The lifesaving service school crossing guards provide in our communities often goes unnoticed,” said Linda Gorman, director of communications and public affairs for AAA Arizona. “As an advocate for safety, AAA is proud to show our appreciation for their efforts and dedication with our Crossing Guard of the Year Award.”

AAA invites students, parents, school administrators, faculty, staff and community members to nominate candidates whom they believe deserve the Crossing Guard of the Year designation. Self-nominations also will be accepted.

The auto club’s traffic safety staff will evaluate nominations to select finalists for the award based on dedication, friendliness, professionalism and safety. The honors will then be awarded to two honorees, one from Maricopa County and one from Pima County, who demonstrate the best example of the procedures and responsibilities outlined in AAA’s Handbook for Adult Crossing Guards. Winners will be announced on Crossing Guard Appreciation Day, April 25, 2014. Winners will receive a recognition plaque and a $500 gift card, courtesy of AAA Arizona. AAA will also award the winning school $500.

Nomination forms are available at all Maricopa County and Pima County school district offices or can be downloaded below. Completed forms can be mailed to AAA Arizona, Attn: Public Affairs, 2375 E. Camelback Rd. Ste. 500, Phoenix, Ariz., 85016, faxed to 602-266-1736, or emailed to [email protected]. Nominations must be submitted by March 10, 2014.
