Pump Prices Will Have Wallets Work Less This Labor Day

About 566,000 Arizonans plan to drive to their Labor Day destination

Phoenix, Aug. 29, 2013. For the fifth straight week, Arizona motorists are experiencing pump price relief, though the nation as a whole was not so fortunate. This week, the statewide average shed 3.3 cents to $3.392 per gallon. Nationally, prices rose 3 cents to $3.564 per gallon.

The 566,000 Arizonans embarking on Labor Day road trips will be met with lower pump prices than last year. To show how current fuel prices compare to previous Labor Day holidays, below is a list of statewide fuel averages for the week leading up to the holiday weekend for the past five years:

In advance of the Labor Day holiday weekend, drivers across the country continue to enjoy discounted pump prices from a year ago,” said Linda Gorman, director of communications and public affairs for AAA Arizona. “While retail gas prices remain well below year-ago levels, tensions, unrest and violence in the Middle East and North Africa have kept global oil prices higher than recent summers.”

Tucson and Flagstaff hold the low and high state fuel averages at $3.274 and $3.668 per gallon, respectively. South Carolina and Connecticut hold the lowest and highest average prices for the lower 48 states at $3.265 and $3.922 per gallon, respectively.
