2013 Pump Prices Anything but Fiscal Clear

Arizona fuel average drops to eighth lowest in the nation

Phoenix, Jan. 3, 2013. As a last-minute deal was reached to avoid the fiscal cliff, motorists started 2013 by bidding adieu to nine-weeks of falling pump prices. This week, the statewide average shed a little less than a penny to $3.051 per gallon, while the national average rose more than 3 cents to $3.292 per gallon.

“The start of 2013 was greeted with elevated crude and wholesale fuel prices, creating uncertainty about gas prices in the year ahead,” said Linda Gorman, director of communications and public affairs for AAA Arizona. “Given market factors, AAA is predicting that prices will remain high this year, but are likely be less expensive than 2012, barring unforeseen events.”

Tucson and Flagstaff hold the low and high state fuel averages at $2.859 and $3.332 per gallon, respectively. Wyoming and New York hold the lowest and highest average prices for the lower 48 states at $2.952 and $3.742 per gallon, respectively
