Tucson Business Achieves "Green" Goal

Tucson, Ariz., Jan. 19, 2012. Four auto repair facilities in Tucson recently received GreenShop designation for finding reasonable and cost-effective ways to protect the environment and conserve resources. With the certification of theseTucsonGreenShop.JPG locations, BRAKEmax has completed its goal of Green Shop certification for all of 12 of its locations across Tucson.

“BRAKEmax voluntarily adjusted business operations to improve the environment—a concept not always associated with the auto repair industry,” said Don Nunnari, AAA Arizona vice president of membership products and services. “We commend them for completing this goal.”

The recent certification of the following BRAKEmax locations completed the chain’s “green” business goal:

  • BRAKEmax #5, 2240 N. Silverbell Rd.
  • BRAKEmax #7, 6055 W. Jenna Nicole Ln.
  • BRAKEmax #10, 15330 N. Oracle Rd.
  • BRAKEmax #12, 1698 W Valencia Rd.

“When we first learned about the Green Shop program, we knew we wanted to be involved,” said Ray Pisciotta, owner and president of the BRAKEmax chain. “From creating cleaner practices to a safer work environment, the program has had a tremendously positive impact on our business. Plus, it’s great knowing that we’re doing our part to promote a greener Tucson.”

The addition of these four facilities brings the total number of AAA Green Shops in Arizona to 30. Of these, 20—or 67 percent—are located in Tucson.

As the certifying authority for the Arizona Green Business program, AAA Arizona inspects auto repair facilities that have applied for certification. To achieve this designation, facilities must demonstrate that they are reducing hazardous waste through the use of specialized equipment and cleaning methods.

Green Shops also create a healthier workplace
by following environmentally sound disposal and cleaning techniques. For example, by using water-based cleaning systems instead of chemical solvents, facilities protect their employees from harmful chemicals, generate less pollution and save money.

Green Shops are inspected for compliance and renew their certification statements every two years. For a complete list of AAA Arizona Green Shops, visit the AAA Green Shops page.
