AAA Unveils New Electric Vehicle Offerings
Mobile, fixed charging technology provides total EV solution
Phoenix, Ariz. April 18, 2012. For more than 85 years, AAA has served Arizona motorists with reliable automotive products and services. Today, the auto club is expanding its legacy by unveiling new offerings for electric vehicle owners, including the club’s first mobile charging units.
“Our new electric vehicle charging capabilities intend to enhance the mobile solutions that AAA has provided to gas-powered motorists for nearly a century,” said Don Nunnari, vice president of automotive and travel services. “By adding this technology to our fleet, members who use either a gas-powered or electric vehicles can enjoy the same safety, security and peace of mind of AAA’s legendary roadside assistance.”
AAA is introducing Arizona to the club’s first-ever mobile charging roadside-assistance trucks, which have the ability to charge electric vehicles on the roadside in order to get drivers quickly back on the go. Trucks will be equipped to offer Level 2 charging free to AAA members. This will provide about 20 minutes of charge time, which is enough “juice” to travel about 10 miles to a AAA fixed or other public charging station.
Trucks will be similar to other roadside assistance trucks and be able to provide traditional services including tire service, fuel delivery, lockout service and jump starts. Today, AAA’s first mobile charging roadside-assistance truck will be introduced in the Phoenix market, and a second will be added to Tucson’s fleet next week as part of a pilot program. The program will be expanded based on the interest and demand of members across the state
AAA Arizona has also partnered with ECOtality to offer fixed charging units at several offices and auto repair facilities. Available for free public use, five locations are currently offering fixed electric vehicle charging, while two additional locations will have this functionality by the end of April:
|Paradise Valley Office||4046 E. Greenway Rd.||Phoenix|
|Chandler Office||4040 W. Ray Road, Suite 2||Chandler|

AAA’s digital mapping tools, TripTik® Travel Planner or the free TripTik Mobile smartphone app, can help electric vehicle drivers locate more than 2,000 charging stations across the U.S. near an address or along a route. The club’s new, fixed charging locations will be listed on these tools by the end of April.
Users can simply select a green plug icon to display locations on a map. Clicking an icon opens a listing that provides the station address, hours, charger levels and, where available, a telephone number. Users can dial the listed numbers in a single touch to check station availability status.
