El Guero Canelo was started by the Contreras family in 1993. The restaurant was started based on an idea from, Daniel's wife, Blanca Contreras, while on a trip to Mexico. Daniel and Blanca spoke of having a Mexican restaurant where Carne Asada and Mexican Hot Dog would be sold. The goal was to provide the best authentic Mexican cuisine available within the Tucson area. Thus began the legendary El Guero Canelo 6'x8' Taco Stand. That taco stand grew to be what El Guero Canelo is today with a staff of 39 and one of the largest outdoor dining areas in Tucson.
